Bleeding Piece of Land

“In the midst of 1945 long-lasting oppressive French colonization in Algeria, Donia and French Captain Dupajon’s love passion is abruptly put off when he is transferred onto another army branch. Donia’s lover promises to return the second his mission is filled. In four months. “It’ll be a new start for both our countries. And us my love. I promise.” Sétif’s massacres will not prove him right, destroying his hopes to see France and Algeria peacefully unify. What about his hope of a life filled with love and Donia…? Will François keep his promise?”

BLEEDING PIECE OF LAND is a historical fiction narrating the story of a taboo relationship between an Algerian woman Donia and Francois, Captain in the French army. Everything separates them, their background to start with. But the passion they have for one another is what unites them and nothing seems to separate them until the day he’s deployed. All of this happens at a time where Algerians are fighting for the independence of their country. How could they not? They’re so fed up with all the social injustice, discrimination, public humiliations and tortures that the French colonization brought on the Algerian soil for over a century now. The time of being treated like second-class citizens has got to stop once and for all.

Daughter of Algerian immigrants, Samira’s parents moved to France in the early 70’s. Proud of her Algerian roots, she always knew that one of her books would be about the 130 years of French colonization and the dark times Algerians endured all along:

This book is about paying my personal tribute to all those who suffered and sacrificed their lives to free Algeria. I feel for what my Algerian ancestors went through. So many lives were lost before the Algerian war started in 1954, and a lot more until 1962. This book is about remembering this dark part of history, of how Algerian were persecuted for over 100 years so we never forget what happened […] so that we are always reminded that oppressing others can never profit anyone, on the contrary, it only feeds humankind with hatred, a hatred that turns to a war and becomes a never-ending vicious circle. Wars lead to the loss of lives on both sides of a conflict, and because of this, there can never a winner. This book is about reminding humanity that hatred is never the answer to peace and that for every failed lesson, a new war it will produce until they understand.”
